June Theme of the Month – 2021

With the housing market is booming, we have been getting many calls regarding carpet cleanings! Did you know that regular cleanings can not only make your carpets look clean and tidy, but also last longer? When selling a home, that is one of the first things that the potential buyer will look at. When buying a home, many home owners want their carpets cleaned before move in.

As the owner, doing regular maintenance including vacuuming, spot removal, and shifting furniture around to prevent permanent carpet denting is a key to helping prevent damage. If there is build up and wear to the carpets, it can often times require a professional cleaning. As a home or business owner, a good rule of thumb is to make a yearly appointment to get a cleaning done.

SERVPRO of Butler, Hopkins, Ohio, Muhlenberg and Edmonson Counties is proud to be a provider of this service. Big or small, home or business, give us a call for a free quote!

2020 Recap

2020 Recap

During 2020, SERVPRO of Butler, Hopkins, Ohio, Muhlenberg and Edmonson Counties has worked hard to continually adapt to the changing circumstances. In the very beginning of 2020, when the first shut down happened, SERVPRO was considered an essential business and stayed open. Since then, our team has adapted and overcame everything that 2020 has thrown at them!

Our production department has had to make the most drastic changes regarding every job that they visit. They now wear PPE (personal protective equipment) to each job to help slow the spread of the virus, and prevent the spread of other common germs. They also wear a new protective suit while working each COVID-19 job. They then dispose of their suit properly afterwards, to prevent accidental reuse. When calling SERVPRO, you can rest assured that anyone coming to your home has been temperature screened and is not bringing anything else into your home.

Our marketing department, who travels around our counties daily, has also taken precautions against the spread of the corona virus. They are doing this by wearing masks, respecting any businesses that are currently closed to walk in clients and are taking care to always stay at least 6 feet apart when businesses are open. Throughout this different time, we continue to wish their agents, adjusters, and other contacts well until they can visit again!

Our team has also continuously provided Certified: SERVPRO Cleaned cleanings throughout the year to prevent any outbreaks in businesses. We have done both 1-time cleanings and continuous cleanings. We will continue to provide these cleanings as long as they are needed.

Interested in starting off your year right and getting a Certified: SERVPRO Cleaned cleaning, you can give us a call or submit a claim online: www.SERVPRObutlerhopkinsohiomuhlenbergedmonsoncounties.com/fnol

August Theme of the Month – 2020

Throughout the month of July, our marketing team is focusing on something that has been weighing heavily on the minds of many families: going back to school. With schools being closed early at the end of the 2019-2020 school year, many families are ready to get back on a normal schedule, and have their children back learning in person. While there are unknowns at this time, schools opening back up are beginning of life going back to normal.

While there are many unknowns at this time, once thing everyone knows is school is going to look a little different this 2020-2021 school year. To prepare for this, the CDC has put out many tips on what you can do before school starts to help make the transition as smooth as possible for both students and teachers. Some of these include:

  • Find out how water will be provided to children during the school day, and consider investing in reusable water bottles for your children to use
  • Make sure to have plenty of masks available, and have an extra one in your child’s school bag
  • Checking your children’s temperature every morning for signs of sickness
  • Review and practice proper hand washing techniques at home, and stress the importance of washing hands

View the full list of tips here.

During this time, SERVPRO of Butler, Hopkins, Ohio, Muhlenberg and Edmonson Counties are continuing to provide sanitizing and cleanings at schools, daycares, businesses and more. When it comes to schools, our cleanings can include classrooms, restrooms, buses, gyms, playground equipment and more. Before cleaning, our team creates a specialized plan on how we handle each business we work for. Doing this helps maximize the value and quality of our services. Learn more about this program here.

July Theme of the Month – 2020

Throughout the month of July, our marketing team is focusing on the fact that schools will begin to reopen after the COVID-19 Virus cut this past school year short. While the school closings this past year were necessary to help slow the spread of the Corona Virus, many families are excited about the thought of children being able to attend this 2020-2021 school year and things beginning to go back to normal. While some are excited, many are also still concerned about how everything will work with students back in the classroom. Throughout the shutdown, SERVPRO of Butler, Hopkins, Ohio, Muhlenberg and Edmonson Counties has always been considered an essential business, and our crews have been working around the clock at many local businesses to help them get ready for their reopenings. We are also able to use the same techniques we do on businesses on schools, school buses, buildings, outdoor play equipment and more.

If you have any questions on what we can do for your home, business or school, we are able to answer those questions over the phone. SERVPRO is also currently providing free quotes for all of our COVID/Corona Virus cleanings, so give us a call at 270-875-4883 to discuss your individual needs.

Local Factory Cleanup

1/10/2020 (Permalink)

SERVPRO of Butler, Hopkins, Ohio, Muhlenberg and Edmonson Counties is large enough to cover huge jobs, but small enough to care about customer service. We recently had a call about working in a local baking factory and cleaning up the building from a recent addition. This 150,000 square foot addition was COVERED with dust from the construction, and so were the machinery that had arrived before a final clean had been done.

Our job was to come in, and clean the space of every spec of dust, up to the factory’s standards. We were hired to complete this project in a 4-week window. They also did not want to disturb their daily functions through this process. Because of this, we altered our employee’s typical workdays, and worked 5pm-3am, 7 days a week. Doing this, our crews were able to work through the space even faster than anticipated. We were able to finish this month-long project in 3 weeks.

While we have the resources to handle jobs of this magnitude, our main goal is to provide the best customer experience possible. Our goal is to meet and exceed expectations all along the way.

Give us a call at 270-875-4883 for more information.

Commercial Downtime = Lost Money

1/7/2020 (Permalink)

SERVPRO of Butler, Hopkins, Ohio, Muhlenberg, and Edmonson Counties understand that when a commercial building is struck by disaster, money is constantly being lost. Our #1 priority is getting you back “Like it never even happened.”

Along with the building, we also know that you must have your supplied to run your businesses as soon as possible too. This is why we have a Contents Department onsite, where we can restore items such as: office furniture, desks, and even paper documents through Document Restoration.

When dealing with a situation like this, our first goal is to restore items rather than replace them. This helps keep costs down and keeps down the hassle of having to replace items. If an item can be saved or restored, we believe it is worth the time to do so.

Another one of our priorities is providing great customer service to our clients. We work hard to always have crews ready to roll out the door any time a day you may have an issue. Our goal is to be onsite within hours and begin work just as quickly.

No matter what type of business you own: large factory, a mom and pop business, restaurant, cosmetologist, or a business run out of your home, we can take care of any situation. We work WITH YOU, FOR YOU!

5 Tips for Smoke & Soot Cleanup

12/31/2019 (Permalink)

When your home or business experiences a fire loss, typically smoke spreads even faster than the fire does. Once the adrenaline high wears off, the hopelessness sets in. Many owners feel at a loss, just want to have the issue taken care of, and their lives put back together. This is where SERVPRO of Butler, Hopkins, Ohio, Muhlenberg and Edmonson Counties steps in. Our trained professionals can come in, assess the damage, and write up an estimate of work. Before help arrives, here are our our top tips for when fire damage happens:

*We do want to warn you though, when cleaning up fire or smoke and do a thorough job on the area, you need specialized training. If you are unsure what to do, let us get onsite before touching anything. *

  1. Clean/Wipe Up Hard Flooring

Water can also absorb into hard wood and underneath vinyl flooring very quickly, which can cause even more issues. It is important to get any water on the flooring wiped up as quickly as possible before this occurs, and mold starts developing on and under the flooring.

If there is too much water to wipe up on your own, let your SERVPRO contact know, and we can bring the proper equipment to pull all the water out of the flooring.

  1. Avoid Smearing Soot Into Clothing

Be sure you do not scrub textile items or throw them into a regular washing machine. You can call a local dry cleaner and ask what they suggest doing, or you can give us a call and we can do an emergency wash on items you need immediately. We have the Esporta Wash System in house, which can wash much more than a regular washing machine and can take out soot and smoke smell. This is a great service to take advantage of when your necessary items are all impacted.

  1. Scrub, Soak and Clean Dishes

When your kitchen is impacted, the dishes are something you may need almost immediately. They are also an item you will want to have these 100% clean, simply because they are what you eat off. To clean the plastic and glass items, first soak in a solution of water and bleach (2 tablespoons of bleach per gallon of water) for about 20 minutes. Then scrub the items with detergent. You cannot clean wooden items in this way, as they will soak up water during the soaking process. They are best to replace in this situation.

  1. Tips to Remove Smoke Soot

During any size fire, there will be smoke damage nearby walls. If it has not been sitting quite a while, or is not very thick, you may be able to take it off yourself. But before you put a mixture with water on the wall, make sure to wipe and dust the area to take off as much of the dried particles as possible. Once soot gets wet, it gets even more sticky. Doing this will decrease the amount of residue stuck to the walls. If you are going to pain the area, also make sure the all is as clean and dry as possible before beginning.

  1. Limit Traffic in Impacted Areas

The more people are going through the area, the more of the soot will be tracked through your home or business. Until you are ready to clean, also limit the amount of people handling the items. Touching will make the soot harder to get off by pushing it onto the items surface.

Above is some items that have been wrapped, and are waiting to be packed into a pod. You can also see the pods in the background!

SERVPRO of Butler, Hopkins, Ohio, Muhlenberg and Edmonson Counties is equipped to take on any of your job needs, including storing contents. With our industrial warehouse, we have the equipment and space to handle your items. When a home or business loss happens, a lot of the time they need their items cleaned, and then stored until their building is repaired. While repairs are done as quickly as possible, there is typically lag time between when the items have finished the cleaning process and when they are ready to be delivered back. To ensure that your items are well taken care of, not mixed up with another clients, and stays in great condition, we wrap these items and place them in pods in our warehouse with codes for each job. This dramatically decreases the chances of human error and helps make the business owners and families we work have peace of mind no matter how long their items stay in our possession.

Constantly improving our processes is how we make sure each of our customers are well taken care of and are put first.

June Theme of the Month - 2019

Throughout the month of June, SERVPRO of Butler, Hopkins, Ohio, Muhlenberg and Edmonson Counties are highlighting how digital our office as become over the years. With our services being Cloud Based and App Driven, we are cutting down on the paper we are using, and we are also keeping our entire staff better informed.

While it is easier on our side of things, it has also improved the customer experience several ways, and has made the process smoother for insurance companies.

We keep an electronic copy of all documents as soon as they are signed, and they are automatically sent to the customer as soon as we save the file in the cloud (which happens almost instantly). This helps ease the mind of customers when they already have a copy of any contacts they have signed.

When the data is uploaded in real time, no matter where we are, so that the employees working your job has access to the data collected within seconds of it being acquired.

Our Marketing Department also has its own set of technology, where they are able to track jobs, leads, referrals from top clients, notes, and more.

F1rst Responder Bowl

1/7/2019 (Permalink)

One of SERVPRO’s sayings is “Like it never even happened.” With that being said, SERVPRO choosing to sponsor the F1rst Responder Bowl on December 26th, 2018 was perfect for us for two reasons:

-Our franchises all over the world support local first responders

-Our saying fit what happened in the game perfectly: it being cancelled

Right after Boston College scored their first touchdown, a thunder and lightening storm came across the field. After a long delay of game, officials feared that the storm was not going away, so they ended up cancelling the game.

Even though the game got cancelled, SERVPRO of Butler, Hopkins, Ohio, Muhlenberg and Edmonson Counties were happy to help support the cause by purchasing two tickets for local Dallas first responders to attend the game. With all the franchises coming together, we were able to pack the stadium with these brave men and women and help celebrate the sacrifice they give every time they go to work!

Giving Back To Your Community

11/6/2018 (Permalink)

Most people end up doing their grocery shopping at the same few places. One of the biggest local grocery stores is Kroger Industries. While they are a store with good produce, prices and environment, did you know they also give back to their local communities?

With their community rewards program, each Kroger Plus Card holder can choose a charity for Kroger to donate a portion of what they spend to. It is as easy as going to their website, signing in, and looking through the available charities. After choosing one, once a year you must go back on their site and confirm your charity again for the coming year. If you are a part of a nonprofit, school, or church, you can also apply to be on the list of places to donate to.

After signing up, every receipt you receive will state how much is going to your charity and what that charity is.

This is a quick way to make sure you are giving money back to your community as much as possible.

Mary Weldon Library Water Loss

Now that winter has hit, we are seeing a lot of burst pipes in both businesses and homes throughout South Central Kentucky. One of the worst places to experience a water loss happened in Glasgow, Kentucky this week: Mary Weldon Memorial Library. The broken pipe flooded both of their floors, and created a huge mess. We were able to get to them within an hour, start extracting water and starting the drying process. The job was so large, it made front page news in the Glasgow Daily Times. We are happy to be able to assist in the time of need!

Team Elkins specializes in the restoration of water damage in commercial and residential properties. Our crew is highly trained and will do everything they can to restore your business to its original condition.

We were excited to be a part of the Annual Edmonson County Chamber Golf Tournament at Shady Hollow Golf Course. It was the perfect day to be on the course, and we enjoyed spending time with the people of our community! We also held a contest for a participant to win a door prize including a cooler, a cup, and an Applebee's gift card. Van Roberts, one of our marketing representatives presented this award to our winner, Rick Brown! We are very excited to participate in this tournament next year, and we plan to be a part of many events in our communities until then!

Hope for the Homeless

Our employees participating in Hope for the Homeless!

REALTORS® Hope for Homeless was established in 2012 by the REALTOR® Association of Southern Kentucky, with the purpose of helping poverty stricken and homeless children, individuals, and families in our community by collecting non-perishable foods, toiletries and money. SERVPRO of Butler, Hopkins, Ohio, Muhlenberg, and Edmonson Counties participated in this event by collecting the nonperishable items from other members of the community and by helping the Realtor Association organize the items into separate boxes as you can see in the top right image. We also promoted this event by posting it on our social media and by informing customers of the event by word of mouth. Plenty of items were collected and donated to people in need. This was a great cause that benefited many people. We were honored to be a part of Hope for the Homeless!

Commercial Duct Cleaning

8/16/2017 (Permalink)

  • The process begins by using patented equipment including a roto-scraper, which automatically adapts to the duct's shape an diameter while traveling through the duct, removing debris and filth before vacuuming begins.

  • Next, a powerful push-pull air delivery and collection system transfers the debris from the ducting to a 16-gallon container.

  • Air is filtered through a HEPA filtration system, removing 99.97 percent of particles in the airstream. HEPA filters capture debris and keep the environment clean.

  • As an optional process, a sealant or coating product may be sprayed to address odor to microbial concerns.

  • Filters will either be cleaned or replaced to remove odor and dirt.

Duct cleaning may not always be necessary. SERVPRO of Butler, Hopkins, Ohio, Muhlenberg, and Edmonson Counties will inspect your HVAC system and ductwork and make recommendations about the best way to address any indoor air quality concerns. This inspection can save you money and provide peace of mind on the health of your HVAC system and ductwork.

In some circumstances, such as after fire, smoke or suspected mold growth, duct cleaning becomes an essential part of the cleanup process. In these cases, SERVPRO of Butler, Hopkins, Ohio, Muhlenberg, and Edmonson Counties often restore the HVAC system and ductwork to pre-damage condition.
